Nucleonics is building a product pipeline with a focus on indications with sizable unmet clinical need where an RNAi based therapeutic should hold a competitive advantage over more conventional therapeutic approaches. The product portfolio has also been selected to include indications for which Nucleonics' nucleic acid delivery technologies enable either systemic or direct delivery of eiRNA product candidates.
Nucleonics believes that its unique ability to target multiple genes and/or multiple sequences within a target gene with a single eiRNA therapeutic agent imparts a significant competitive advantage over the single target approaches, employed by small molecule antivirals or siRNA therapeutics, with regard to drug resistance. This multi-targeting ability sits at the core of Nucleonics' antiviral programs for HBV, HCV and influenza A. For example, Nucleonics' influenza A product candidate has been engineered through bioinformatics to target all known strains of the influenza A virus, including the H5N1 strain associated with bird flu.
The company believes the multi-targeting capability of its eiRNA technology will also convey a competitive advantage in oncology applications as Nucleonics' products can be engineered to incorporate multiple targets involved in tumor growth and progression.
The table below provides an overview of Nucleonics' current eiRNA development programs:
